Bulgaria / Stara Zagora / Nikolaevo /
nunnery, 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria, Bulgarian Orthodox Church

Karan Varbovka Monastery "St. Marina" (also called Karanvarbovski Monastery) is located 3 km southwestern of the village of Karan Varbovka. This is the most famous monastery with a ayazmo (sacred spring) in Eastern Bulgaria, which is dedicated to Monastery "St. Marina".
It is assumed that the monastery was founded during the Second Bulgarian Kingdom (XII-XIV century), before the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule.
The current church of monastery was built in 1890. In its centre is the holy spring (ayazmo) which is shaped as an well, with stone steps, fenced with iron railing and with three wickets. Here is the only mineral spring in Ruse District.
