Volusia is an unincorporated populated area along the eastern shore of the St. Johns River and the western edge of Volusia County. It lies across the river from the community of Astor, in Lake County. State Highway 40 is the primary road and means of access to Volusia.

Volusia was a key port and trading post for pioneers settling the Florida peninsula and was surveyed by the government in 1821. Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings set her 1938 Pulitzer Prize-winning bestseller "The Yearling" in and around the town of Volusia. Volusia County is named for the town, though the origin of the name "Volusia" is a mystery about which several theories exist.

Volusia's population is small, with about 230 homes in the community. Many of these do not serve as primary residences. Postal services are provided through the Astor Post Office.
