  • Brandon was created back in the late 70's as a few housing developments that were just east and slightly south of Tampa's ghetto and fairgrounds. One must pass thru these urban blighted areas to go to Brandon from Tampa and this, with Brandon's constantly gridlocked traffic and extremely high crime rate, make Brandon somewhat 'edgy' in choosing Brandon for settling with children. Brandon has everything including one of the largest malls in the state of Florida, lots of car dealerships, lots of adult nude entertainment shops, and all the big box stores. Probably the most desirable and safest places in the Brandon area to live would be at the extreme far eastern city limits or beyond towards Plant City. As a long time resident of the Tampa area (26 years), I have found that avoiding the mess called Brandon is the best answer. Even during the lull of the afternoon workday, say 2 PM to 4 PM, it still takes about 45 minutes to an hour to go east to west (or vice versa) thru Brandon via the main road or any other connecting road(s). A newer town, yes.............but plagued by very many problems that seem to have no answer.
  • Larry, I do not agree. We have lived in Brandon since 2009. My wife and I love it there. Yes traffic is an issue, the town grew faster than the city growth plan (my opinion). The adult nude entertainment you speak of are actually in Tampa not Brandon. I am not aware of ANY strip joints in Brandon proper. As for crime not sure it as bad as you say, don't confuse Ybor with Brandon. The reasons we like Brandon are some of the reasons you say. Anything you would like to get from Tampa, Brandon probably has. all the restaurants, entertainment. If there is something missing a quick trip to Tampa and you have it.
