  • Gupt-Godavari is situated at a distance of 18 km S-W of Chitrakootam town. There is a pair of caves, one high and wide with an entrance through which one can barely pass, and the other long and narrow with stream of water running along its base. One has to wade through water in the later cave to reach two natural throne-like rocks which were supposed to be chairs used by Rama and Lakshmana to hold court. Beware of bats and water-snakes (harmless) inside caves! Very well lighting arrangements have been made by the devasthanam everywhere inside caves. At the entrance to the cave is a beautifully carved sculpture of the Trinity (Brahma, Vishnu and Maheswara).
