Govind Vallabh Pant Sagar is a man made lake situated in southern region of Sonebhadra named after Bharat Ratna Pandit Govind Ballabh Pant.
The area in southern region of Sonebhadra district Eastern Uttar Pradesh is referred as Energy Capital Of India because the region has large reserves of coal and a dozen power plants of UPRVUNL and NTPC are installed around the Govind Ballabh Pant Sagar. The headquarters of Northern Coalfields Limited is also situated in the very region. The region produces more than 10,000 MW of electricity, largest in India after Dadri in Western Uttar Pradesh.
