Shortly before his birth in 1767, Andrew Jackson's widowed mother decided to move from her home in current Union County, North Carolina to live with her sister, Mrs. Crawford. One the way she stopped to spend the night at the home of another sister, Mrs. McKemry. Was little Andy born the night when his mother was staying at Mrs. McKemey's house or the next day when she arrived at Mrs. Crawford's house? The controversy continues...

This monument marks the spot on the McKemey farm in North Carolina where he could have been born.

The Crawford farm is a few miles down the road at the site of Andrew Jackson State Park.
