Wadala. One of the more populated areas of Bombay.
The city of Bombay originally consisted of seven islands, namely Colaba, Old Woman's Island, Bombay island, Mazgaon, Worli, Mahim and Parel. Wadala was the north-eastern part of Parel island. This group of islands, which have since been joined together by a series of reclamations, formed part of the kingdom of Ashoka, the famous Emperor of India.
We have Wadala divided into two major vibhaags, one wadala(w) and other aneek wadala or antop hill.
Wadala west is the more happening as it is located close to upscale places like the five gardens and Parsi colony. It is largely residential and has several Art Deco apartment buildings located around Kidwai Rd. East is mostly industrial. Though this is changing gradually. Many big residential complexes have developed here over the past few years viz. Dosti Estate, Dosti Acres, Bhakti Park, etc. While Amjera I-Land and Lodha New Cuffe Parade are two new projects that are being constructed here. The presence of an engg college Vidyalankars has also added to the charm. East however has very few hangout spots.
Please others ( residents of Wadala preferably ) add to this article authentic info. This info I am sure of as of Dec 2008.
