Wadala. One of the more populated areas of Bombay.
The city of Bombay originally consisted of seven islands, namely Colaba, Old Woman's Island, Bombay island, Mazgaon, Worli, Mahim and Parel. Wadala was the north-eastern part of Parel island. This group of islands, which have since been joined together by a series of reclamations, formed part of the kingdom of Ashoka, the famous Emperor of India.

We have Wadala divided into two major vibhaags, one wadala(w) and other aneek wadala or antop hill.

Wadala west is the more happening as it is located close to upscale places like the five gardens and Parsi colony. It is largely residential and has several Art Deco apartment buildings located around Kidwai Rd. East is mostly industrial. Though this is changing gradually. Many big residential complexes have developed here over the past few years viz. Dosti Estate, Dosti Acres, Bhakti Park, etc. While Amjera I-Land and Lodha New Cuffe Parade are two new projects that are being constructed here. The presence of an engg college Vidyalankars has also added to the charm. East however has very few hangout spots.

Please others ( residents of Wadala preferably ) add to this article authentic info. This info I am sure of as of Dec 2008.

  • It is a great news that a new 100 storey building will come up in Wadala East. Also it is going to be on Mono Rail route.
  • The Wadala East is fast developing and it is worthwhile to invest in real estate. Further the eastern express link and the mono rail facilities would definitely add to the charm. It is very near to Dadar and centrally located to reach the airport or Chatrapati sivaji Terminus.
  • Sanjay Shankar Dhumak I had been in Wadala for 30 years since birth. It is a special place for me as I played, studied, employed and married in Sahakar Nagar which is in Wadala. Since residents of wadala have access to three lines i.e. Central, Western and Harbour Line, along with B.E.S.T. Depot and S.T. stand (stop). Dnyaneshwar Vidyalaya, King George, Don Bosco School, and Colleges like Dr. Ambedkar College, Khalsa College, S.I.W.S. College, Ruia College, Poddar College, V.J.T.I., P.T. College, Talwalkars gym., Sharda Theatre, Chitra Theatre, Plaza Theatre Dadar Station, Dadar market, Five Garden, Parsee Colony, and function halls like, NICO, Sakhar Panchayat, Palamko Hall, Municipaliity School, KEM Hospital, Wadia Hospital, Tata Hospital all these facilities are situated at walking distance for Wadala residents. And recently mono rail facility has added charm for wadala. Moreover it has not been affected due heavy rain in the past. It is safe to reside in Wadala.
