This creek is surrounded by many gigantic industries. At the heart of the creek is Mahul Village. There is a jetty for landing small boats for fishermen. Migratory birds , mostly Flamingoes come to this creek every winter.

Bordering the Mahul Creek on its west is the area around the village of Anik, which was reserved as coastal no-development zone, being largely salt-pans and or lands flooded by the sea during very high tides and swamps populated by migratory birds. The Anik wetlands also act as sponges absorbing excessive surface runoffs during the rainy season.

Recently, the City government has decided to open up these lands for development and urbanization, a move that is being vociferously opposed as destructive of the environment and of the last few major open spaces / bio-reserves of the metropolitan region.
