Windholme Farm was the 300+acre estate of banker and coal broker Samuel T. Peters. He purchased the property in the 1880s and gradually established his summer estate there, building numerous structures and outbuildings over the years until his death in 1921. Estate was then split between his children; Louisine was given the 70acres west of South Bay Avenue, and Harry the 200acres east of it. This eastern land was inherited by Harry's daughter Natalie Peters Webster when he died in 1948. After getting married in 1936, she and her husband Charles Webster lived in an 1880s guest cottage on the property they expanded, and called Twyford. By 1968 they decided to gift their property to the federal government for the creation of the Seatuck National Wildlife Refuge. Charles Webster would later found the Seatuck Environmental Association to conduct education and research on the property. Natalie's cousin, Lousine Peters, lived next door.
The c1910 farm group of the Peters estate was featured in "Modern Farm Buildings" by Alfred Hopkins, its designer, and is still extant. Nearly all of the many structures throughout the acreage have been demolished, some decades ago. Windholme itself, as well as Harry Peters' residence Nearholme, were torn down in the late 1940s.
