Original site of "Little Ipswich", the former estate of Chalmers Wood {Stockbroker} and Ruby Ross Wood {Interior decorator, writer}, Greek Revival by Delano & Aldrich c.1927. Mr. Wood was from Ipswich, MA, and so named their estate, although the home was informally called the "Lakehouse", after the lakes that were often used by guests for rowing and other activities. The home was leveled and the 29-acre estate was subdivided in the 1990's to make room for a 21 home development now known as Pironi Estates.

  • I found this very interesting as I used to live on the six acres to the right that shows all trees now and was glad to see the Wood Estate included as I used to go skating on their pond as a young girl and also learned how to swim in their pool. Why do I not find anything on Wilock? Not sure of the spelling. He had the mansion right next to us that did not sell and was finally made into a nursing home, which I worked in as a young girl. His brother, Bill, had a very large estate that was demolished back in the '50's and I have seen nothing on that -- also I have searched for the estate of Rosalie Jones, which would have been near us in Woodbury, but probably in Cold Spring Harbor.
