apartment building, commercial building
A group of six 4-story residential buildings originally completed together as a unit in 1881. The four narrow facades in the middle are only two bays wide, while the two end buildings have three bays: an end bay, an angled bay extending back to the set-back building line of the middle section, and another bay in line with the set-back middle facades. Each building retains its original brownstone stoop leading up to parlor-floor entrances, except for No. 366 which has a narrower and longer stairway to its recessed entrance. The stoops and main doorways are located at the east half of the western three facades, and the west half of the eastern three. The eastern four stoops have simple wrought-iron handrails, while the westernmost stoop at No. 368 has broader handrails on balusters, with stone bases at the bottom of the stoop. Each of the doorways, except for the narrower one at No. 366, has wooden paneled double-doors below a transom. The two easternmost doorways retain their original projecting, framing pilasters supporting pediments. Next to the stoops, each building except No. 360 has a commercial storefront at the ground level; they are built out to the sidewalk at Nos. 358, 364 & 366. At No. 366 the parlor floor has also been converted to a 2nd level of storefront. The other facades have large windows with iron grilles at the parlor floor, next to the doorways.
Each facade is faced in smooth stucco, painted different shades of brown or beige. At Nos. 366 & 368, the cornices were removed and an additional floor added to each. Both of these buildings also have black metal fire escapes, the one on No. 368 wrapping around the angled facade. The other four facades retain the original metal roof cornices, each painted different shades of brown, and having stylized brackets alternating with modillions, and patterned friezes. The ground floor storefronts are occupied by Ikinari Steak from Japan, Bareburger, Hold Fast Kitchen & Spirits, and Heno Heno restaurant.
