post office, condominiums, interesting place, 1926_construction

5-story Neo-modern residential building originally completed in 1926 as a 3-story post office. It was renovated to be adaptively reused, with new floors on top of the existing post office, in 2017 in a conversion to condominiums, designed by Architecture Outfit.

The facade is clad mainly in red brick at the lower two floors. Toward the east end there is a remodeled main entrance to the post office, in a 2-story section that is slightly recessed and faced in brown-pai8nted pre-cast concrete. Nestled just to the left is the residential entrance, with a glass door, transom, and large sidelight window next to a decorative metal panel. At the far east end is a section of textured brick, extending up to the 3rd floor, and then across the new top two floors as well. The rest of the ground floor, to the west of the entrances, has three bays of double-windows, followed by three garage door openings flanked by small metal service doors.

At the recessed, brown concrete section near the east end, vertical piers extend up to the 2nd floor, separating three bays of double-windows. The rest of the 2nd floor to the west is brick, with a rusticated limestone band at the bottom, and has ten bays of double-windows.

The 3rd floor has 14 bays of large, multi-paned industrial-style windows divided by brown metal pilasters, and has a projecting brown metal band along the bottom, lined with landscaping plants. The top two floors have 15 bays of similar multi-pane windows. The east end bay wraps around the corner, and the next four bays are each slightly recessed.

The building contains 30 condominium units.
