In 1970s there was TDK-16 only. Towards 1979 end the (that time) Great DEC-1090 with 22 terminals came. It worked on Tops-10 operating system. It was very good for all purposes, including research in various fields. Thereafter lots of small PCs came and then the four HP Unix systems : Prithvi, Vayu, Kshiti and Vyom(?). The present students may add for current systems and facilities.

  • Nowadays we have clusters from (2 in no.) each power packed with 48 nodes (AFAIK and may be wrong). a lot of processing power and thus a lot of heat. AC has been jacked up a lot. more than 400 terminals running linux (readhat 9) and windows XP. It also houses a virtual reality lab, few faculty and admins, a faulty switch gear which gave way and burnt in 2005 summers, student gymkhana servers, navya server and a lot more. Internet backbone has been increased to 38MBPS(?) and proxy servers such as vsnlproxy, proxy etc serve it to the community. Switches have been changed to 1GBPS in almost all the parts of this facilty and wifi thrown in, it is arguably the best computing facility in this part of the world(India). There is a lot more to it...sometime later
