Chatalka Reservoir

Bulgaria / Stara Zagora /
 reservoir, 1995_construction

The construction of Chatalka Dam was started in 1963 and completed in 1995. The dam is intended for water supply of the town of Stara Zagora with drinking water and for irrigation of agricultural areas. A Thracian tomb with many interesting artifacts was found in the cup of the dam during the construction, transferred and exhibited in the Stara Zagora Historical Museum. For this reason, the construction has been stopped and the dam is not used for its intended purpose.

  • This dam seems to be unfinished yet. Does anybody have some more info about it? I've been seeing maps, where the dam is displayed as a relatively big one, much bigger than this tiny blue spot here.
  • Picture from 04 November 2008. Imagery from 1980s shows activity on the wall, but nothing more.
  • Yes it is unfinished and nobody knows when will be... Till the end of 90's there was some activities but now everything stopt. Can you give me some links to the maps where tha dam is displayed?
