Terminal 3 of London Heathrow Airport was opened in November 1961 as the Oceanic Terminal and was given its current name in 1968. It was expanded in 1970 with the addition of a new arrivals building. Pier 6 was added in 2006. Terminal 3 has a floor area of 98,962 sq m (1,065,218 sq ft). Redevelopment of the terminal's forecourt was completed in 2007, involving the addition of a drop off area, a large pedestrianised plaza, and a canopy to the front of the terminal. At the same time several piers were rebuilt to suit the double deck Airbus A380.
