The Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier is an amusement park in Galveston, Texas. Opened on May 25, 2012, it consists of 2 restaurants, a roller coaster, 15 rides, carnival games, souvenir shops and a parking lot across Seawall Boulevard. Despite being labeled "historic", while there was a boardwalk named "Pleasure Pier" (featuring rides, an arcade, an aquarium, concessions, a large ballroom, and fishing at the end of the pier) from 1943 to 1961 (when it was destroyed by Hurricane Carla), from 1965 to 2008 it was the home of the Flagship Hotel, an over-the-water hotel built in 1965 by Houston banker James Lyon, and its parking lot. In 2004, the pier and hotel (run down by this point) were purchased by Landry's Inc., which announced a renovation of the property. That never came to be, and the Flagship never reopened after Hurricane Ike in 2008. The severely damaged hotel was demolished soon after. In October 2010 Landry's announced that an amusement park, similar to its Boardwalk in Kemah, Texas would be constructed in its place.
