Ostrova Industrial Zone (Varna)

Bulgaria / Varna / Varna
 industrial area, invisible, artificial island

"Ostrova" means "The Island" in English. Locals call it "Galata". It is 3 km long and 0,9 km wide, and covers an area of around 2 km²

An artificial island, it was created when Canal 2 on its south was dug in the 1970's. On the north, it was bounded by the river Varna that is now Canal 1 (since the early 1900s). Before Canal 1 was built, a mediaeval vaulted stone bridge crossed the river.
