The Canada Building lives up to its name with large bison heads flanking the main doorway and some beavers chewing on maple branches decorating the roofline. Allan Bowerman set out to build a four storey office building on this site in 1912-13, but getting caught up in the optimistic spirit of the times, ended up constructing an eight storey building. For years it was touted as the tallest office building in Canada west of Winnipeg. The building is 115 feet high and has red granite facing on the base with terra cotta details on the first two floors and the upper storey cornice. The buffalo heads on the 21st Street facade once secured chains supporting a marquee over the main entrance. It has been designated as a heritage property.
