Older inner-city neighbourhood that started out as the city's first suburb in 1905. The Caswell Hill area was named after one of the first settlers that arrived with the Temperance Colonists. Robert Caswell arrived in Nutana with the Temperance Colonists from Moose Jaw in 1883.

Originally an affluent subdivision, the area declined along with the other inner city neighbourhoods in the 20th century. However, Caswell Hill generally has fewer problems with crime and poverty than the neighbourhoods immediately south. While below the city average, its average household income and home ownership rate is higher than most of the inner city. It would appear to have the greatest potential for revitilization, as evidenced by the Eaton Loft redevelopment and the South Caswell Concept Plan.
