ancient, archaeological site, interesting place
A large open building featuring a colonnade and peripheral rooms around a central courtyard. This was the place where the citizens of Athens would gather for public feasts and sacred rites. The best known of these was the pompai, or procession, to Eleusis. The Pompeion was entered through a marble gateway adjacent to the Panathenaic Way. --grecodan
