military, demolished, tropospheric scatter station
Active between 1957 and 1979, the Cape Newenham White Alice station was co-located with the Cape Newenham Long-Range Radar Site and provided a direct communications link for the station to the rest of the US Air Force's and NORAD's White Alice Communications System (WACS) via a 148-mile shot to the WACS station in Bethel, AK. The site remained operational until the entire WACS system was shut down in 1979 in favor of the Alascom-owned satellite communication system.
Idle thereafter, the site's support buildings and two 60ft antenna were demolished and the site environmentally remediated by 1987.
