This temple is dedicated to goddess maa shakti (sometimes called Vyagheshwari Mata who is kuldevi of baghela clan of Gujrat and rewa). This place has historically importance. There was a palace named as Nand Mahal which was a residence of Baghela rulers of Baderi (later on they shifted to fortress (garhi) of baderi. Some claim that rulers of baderi were blessed by daiviya shakti who also guides and protect them. According to legends, this mountain has a miraculous rock which was written in some secret language, if anyone can read it he could get food for seven days. As the time passed goddess was named as Nand mahal mata.
Devotees of goddess come here to pray on navratri. A annual fair is held on the mountain by the local people on the occasion of Makar Sankranti. This place is also famous for its natural view from height.
