oil sands mine/extraction
Add category
This proposed oil sands mine is a partnership of Suncor Energy (40.8% interest), Total E&P Canada (39.2%), and mining company Teck Resources Limited (20%). The first phase will produce 160,000 barrels per day of bitumen when it commences around 2016.
Suncor says Fort Hills will process bitumen with a technology called paraffinic froth treatment, similar to the process introduced by Imperial/Exxon Mobil at the nearby Kearl project, and skips the need for an onsite upgrader, thereby cutting costs.
