Oil sands mine, part of the Athabasca Oil Sands Project (a joint venture among Shell Canada Energy--60%, Chevron Canada Ltd--20% and Marathon Oil--20%) and operated by Shell. Muskeg River currently produces 155,000 barrels per day of bitumen. With an expansion of Muskeg River plus the nearby Jackpine mine, Jackpine Expansion (between Kearl and MacLelland Lake), Pierre River and other oil sands leases, AOSP could ultimately produce 470,000 barrels per day.

The bitumen is processed at Shell's Scotford Upgrader and Refinery, located northeast of Edmonton.
