Artisan Lofts

USA / New Jersey / Hoboken / Reade Street, 143
condominium, high-rise, Art Deco (architecture), 1931_construction

218-foot, 17-story Art-Deco residential building completed in 1931. Designed by Victor Mayper, it is clad in beige brick above a 2-story white stone base. The piers divide the facade into five bays of three tall vertical windows each. The spandrels panels have Art-Deco brickwork. There are a couple setbacks above the 10th floor. The original building (with address at 157 Chambers Street) was built as an office building, and later housed the Globo Television Network Office.

A conversion to condominiums in 2008, designed by BKSK Architects, attached the neighboring building at 143 Reade Street as the building's lobby (also becoming its official address). This 5-story facade is Italianate, with cast-iron Corinthian columns at the base, and a stone upper section with segmental-arched windows. Artisan Lofts has 45 residential units. The ground floor is occupied by Unleashed by Petco pet supplies.
