The village of Delchevo – “the eagle” of Southern Pirin Mountain has gently nested in its heart like an eagle on the slopes under the city of Gotse Delchev and surrounded by the breathtaking views of the Rila, Rhodopes and Pirin Mountains. It is located at 1,050 m a.s.l. (610 m below the city) and 15 minutes (9 km) of asphalt road from the city.
The more important distances are – 18 km – to the Bulgarian-Greek border, 50 km from the greek city of Drama and 90 km from Kavala as well as 200 km from Bulgaria’s capital – Sofia. In close proximity of the village there is a balneo-spa centre of Ognyanovo, and 45 km away is the top ski resort – Bansko. Dospat dam is 50 km away full of troughs and carps, there are other small fishing ponds as well.
The area is very suitable for eco-tourism as well as mountain hiking, hunting, herb picking and mushroom. Clean pure environment far away from industries and other pollution sources.
The village has an amphitheatric disposition on the rocky terrain among the beech trees.
Initially founded in the XV century, today the village has 80 houses with 30 of them being national cultural monuments, with a total of 70 inhabitants. In 1838 the church Uspenie Bogorodichno was built. It’s a traditional village where the asphalt road finishes in the center square.
More and more people are attracted to Delchevo for tourism as well as permanent residence, because its only 15 minutes away from a major city, amongst the virgin forest and with a bird-eye view of the valley and the its beauties.
