lighthouse, United States Coast Guard, interesting place
First operational in 1903, Scotch Cap Light was the first lighthouse on the outside coast of Alaska. In 1940, a concrete structure replaced the original wooden lighthouse, but this building was destroyed on 1 April 1946 by tsunami. All of the five-man crew operating it were killed.
A temporary light was installed until it could be replace with a permanent building in 1950, which was automated in 1971. A skeletal light tower was installed on top of the 1950 building, and the fog signal was discontinued.
