This fountain was originally one of a pair designed by Sir Charles Barry, R.A., architect of the British Houses of Parliament. These fountains were located in Trafalgar Square, London England from 1845 to 1939 when they were removed to make way for larger fountains. They were given as gifts to the Canadian government, who decided to put one in Ottawa and the other in Regina. This fountain's twin is located in Ottawa's Confederation Park.
