Kulayan Karisal

Kulayankarisal is a fertile village near Tuticorin. A lot of agriculture goes on here. Water irrigation is through a tank. Paddy and banana are the main crops.

The first graduate from the village was Mr P Augustus Thangasamy. He was the eldest son of on Mr Piramuthu Nadar. He became a convert to Christianity through the missionary works of people like Bishop Robert Caldwell. He did his BA and then did his BL and ML and later he became the first MLA from Tinnavely in the early 1950s of the Congress Party. He also served as a public prosecutor for three terms.

He had four brothers and three sisters. One brother was Mr P Swarnapandian, a famous headmaster of the Schools of Tinnavely Diocese. Other brothers too were illustrious and had illustrious sons. One such was Mr R Kanagasabapathy who was the first Principal of Adithanar College, Tiruchendur. Many others were highly educated and were in highly responsible positions. They all added to the glory of the village.

Other MLAs from this village are Mr Sundersingh , an unassuming lawyer, and Mr V P R Ramesh.
