Rosen is an unincorporated community in section 3 of Walter Township, Lac Qui Parle county, Minnesota. It is located about 12 miles south of Ortonville. The town has a population of about 50.
The Lac Qui Parle county official records show land was deeded by the U.S. Government to Franz Stolpman on October 28, 1881. Franz Stolpman and his wife conveyed three acres of this land to Simon Karels, Valentine Kelzer, and Peter Hackert, trustees of the German Catholic St. Joseph Congregation of the town of Yellowbank, for the sum of $1.00. This land was used by the parish as a site for the church, rectory, and cemetery. The Church of St. Joseph of Yellowbank, in the county of Lac Qui Parle, was incorporated on January 29, 1896.
Rosen is named for Fr. Peter Rosen who was paster when St. Joseph's Church was incorporated. Fr. Rosen suggested the elderly people of the the parish form a village by building homes around the church when they retire from farming. He also suggested some of the parishioners build stores so people might purchase supplies when they came to attend church services.
