The rural settlement of Polyarka served the polar station located there. According to the 1989 census, the population was about 200 people. There were health care and trade institutions. Administratively, it was subordinate to the urban-type settlement of Tiksi. The settlement was excluded from the list of populated areas of the Bulunsky District by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) dated June 1, 1999, No. 286. The Polyarka weather station continues to operate on the territory of the settlement.
