The G.A. Treakle Memorial Bridge, commonly referred to as the High Rise Bridge is a four-lane, bascule drawbridge that carries Interstate 64 and U.S. Route 17 over the Southern Branch of the Elizabeth River. The entire bridge is 4825' long with 62' maximum clearance. The approaches include steel beam spans that also cross over Virginia Route 166 (Bainbridge Boulevard) and several railway spurs. The bridge is constructed with a concrete deck, with steel grid decking for the lift portion. The bridge was built from 1969 to 1972. A parallel fixed span bridge is currently under construction to the south, to accommodate widening of I-64 through the area.

It was simply named the High Rise Bridge from 1972 to 2005. In 2005 it was renamed after Guerdon Allyn Treakle, who was Mayor of the City of Chesapeake from 1965 to 1970. In most contexts, however, it is still referred to as the High Rise Bridge.
