"Alei" Garden (Giurgiu)

The park's construction was requested by General Kiselef in 1830.
The "Alei" Garden was arranged over several years, from 1831, when began the city systematization too. In 1840, there were planted 200 lime and also were build a buffet and a music pavilion. The tradition of music in the park is still preserved today.
It is one of the first romantic gardens in Romania. In time, it was changed, keeping only part of the initial structure of paths and vegetation.
The statues in park are works of art and also historical monuments. Most important, in terms of art, is the bust of Mihai Eminescu.
Another important monument is dedicated to the French army, as a tribute to the Allied commander in the Balkans, during World War I, Marshal Foch. The monument was installed in 1920.
An impressive ensemble is formed by the 23 statues busts of heroes of the Independence War of 1877 (Valter Maracineanu, Dimitrie Lemnea, Major Sontu, Philip sg. Iliescu etc.), installed in park at the occasion of the centennial of this historic event, in, 1977. They are the work of leading sculptors, including Boris Caragea, Vasile Gorduz, Elena Avramescu, Jana Gertler, Horia Flămând and oth.
