Site of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad's extensive masonry engine house and repair shops complex constructed in 1872-73, and known by the locals as the "Great Stone Fort." The main stone structure existed for over 120 years. Efforts to preserve the building were fruitless, leading to its destruction in the 1990's. Many of the stones were sold to wineries in California's Napa Valley.
