One of the two remaining reminants of ancient Lake Lahontan. The lake is endorheic and fed primarily by the Truckee River, an outlet of Lake Tahoe. The Lake is within the Boundaries of the Pyramid Lake Indian Reservation. It is famous for the rare Lahontan Cutthroat Trout and its endemic species, the cui-ui sucker fish.
It is named for a small pyramid shaped island located near its eastern shore.
