lake, interesting place

Honey lake went dry in 1989, and has been a dry lake bed more often than not, since then. When southwesterly winds charge over the Sierra Nevada eastern escarpment, they form a horizontal vortex in the lee of the mountain range. Such vortexes churn up huge columns of alkali dust from the lake bed, which the wind then carries away into Nevada, Idaho, Montana, and Canada, drastically reducing visibility, and endangering health and machinery.
