Albert Huet Square

The Square was formed on the route of the first premises fortified town. The precinct itself dates from the end of the XII century , "prepoziturii"(church institution) existence in the year 1191 is a term "ante quem" for dating the current square area. The buildings were built on the route of the first walls when the fortification lost their practicall role since the second half of the XIVth century, with the full fortification of the Upper Town.
In 1415 is mentioned here the existence of a cemeteryal chapel with the patron St. Ladislau. Also, in the immediate vicinity of the chapel are Preotilor/Priest's Tower (demolished in 1898), among which a house existed, Thomas Gulden's, donated by the owner to the city as the mayor's office. The constructions around the Lutheran Cathedral are valuable vestiges of culture, being in databile XV-XVIII. Of these, the most important are the Parish House(XV,XVI century), Tower of the Stairs(XII,XIV,XVIcentury)or Brukenthal School(1786).

The market is dominated by the massive building of the Evangelical Cathedral, with tall tower of 73.34 meters, the highest in Transylvania. Piata Huet is developed on the surface of the first premises strongholds of the city
