Сooling tower (unfinished)

Used for cooling reactors 5 and 6 (construction abandoned) because of insufficient cooling lake surface (lake was unable to cool two more reactors).

  • i thought they used a cooling pond not cooling towers. maybe they realised cooling towers were more efficent?
  • you can only put so much heat back into pond before it will not come back cool enough to use. so cooling towers would have been needed if other reactors were built. that way water in ponds wouldn't warm so much that it would come to plant as too hot to work.
  • yes. because you can see several more reactors under construction.
  • Yep, at the time of the disaster, Chernobyl only had 4 reactors; a 5th and 6th werev under construction and were linked to these.
  • so, for reactor 5 and 6 there was no use of the cooling pond....
