Wind River Canyon

USA / Wyoming / East Thermopolis / U.S. Highway 20
 canyon / gorge, railway

The Wind River Canyon reaches from the "Wedding of the Waters", near Thermopolis, south to Boysen Dam, approximately 15 miles.

The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railway built through the Canyon, connecting Casper with Billings, with a rail line which was completed in 1914. This line still exists, and is now part of BNSF Railway. It is used only for freight trains, as passenger trains stopped running on this line during the 1960s, before Amtrak was created.

Also running through the Canyon are U.S. Highway 20 and Wyoming Highway 789, which were designated as a Scenic Byway during 2005.
