Known as the Lion’s Bridge, the dam forming Lake Maury provides a breathtaking view of the James River, as well as a family gathering place to enjoy the Mariner's Museum Park. The beauty of the dam is enhanced by several fine pieces of statuary designed by Anna Hyatt Huntington. Four stone lions were mounted on the ends of the parapets of the dam in October 1932.

  • This is one of the most well-known and popular spots in Newport News. Beautiful, well maintained, well-traveled by pedestrians, bicyclists, dog walkers and Sunday drivers. Fabulous for picnics and picture taking. One section of the Noland Trail drops off at the Lions Bridge, so hikers and runners can enjoy access to Riverside Drive as well as the Mariner's Museum and Peninsula Fine Arts Center. It is also near the Ferguson Center for the Arts, a beautiful, successful addition to the Christopher Newport University campus. This section of the city is one of the best gems.
