An addition constructed to the east of the Capri building was completed in 2012, and provides 65 additional units rented out at below market rates.

The building started its life as the Empire Hotel and featured the Empire Theatre, a 1200-seat live theatre venue opened in 1910. It was sold in 1930 and operated mainly as a cinema.
