Moti Mahal (Pearl Palace) (Lucknow)

India / Uttar Pradesh / Lakhnau / Lucknow

Among the three beautiful buildings on the fringes of the Gomti in Lucknow, is Moti Mahal or the Palace of Pearls constructed by Nawab Saadat Ali Khan. The Nawabs used these buildings to view the birds in flight. The 'Pearl Palace' was erected by Nawab Sadat Ali Khan, but the other two buildings - the Shah Manzil and the Mubarak Manzil, were added to the complex much later, by Ghazi-ud-din Haider. These were constructed for the Nawab and his courtiers to watch animal combats that were held at the other side of the view, from the balconies of these buildings.

QADAM RASUL The 'Prophet's Footprint' was brought to India from Mecca by some distinguished pilgrim. Though badly damaged in 1857 war, the stone bearing the foot print still stands on a high pedestal near Sikandar Bagh (NBRI), constructed by Nawab Ghazi-ud-din Haider.
La Martiniere Girls' College was established in 1869 by Mrs. and Mr. Abbott initially at Moti Mahal and known as the Lucknow Girls' School. The Government, however was pleased to present Khurshed Manzil and the land surrounding it to the La Martiniere Trust for the express purpose of running a Girls' School. The school shifted from Moti Mahal to its present site in 1871. Unfortunately, this 200 year old building collapsed due to the 2005 Kashmir Earthquake.
