This location is part of the Halifax Defence Complex.

Small fortress comprised of one large building and two cannon mounts (one cannon) surrounded by a cement wall over looking Point Pleasant Battery and the mouth of the Halifax harbour.

Originally built in the mid-1790s by the order of General Ogilvie to guard against an enemy ship passing through the harbour. Ogilvie named it himself for himself. Fort Ogilvie now stands "abandoned ... a monument to a little man".

Fort Ogilvie and Cambridge Battery were upgraded with modern weapons during the Second World War. A gun from this era is still visible at Fort Ogilvie.
