  • I was stationed at old Base Galveston in the Summer of 1971. Hurricanes Fern and Edith showed up late that Summer and were more than interesting to a 19 year old Seaman (fresh out of Alameda Boot Camp) from Washington State. It was fun duty compared to where a number of other guys went in '71 including Vietnam. On the weekends I was able to go out to the nearby beach and enjoy the sun, surf and watch girls. ;-) (Curt Brennan/Aberdeen, WA)
