Astroworld was a theme park that opened in June 1968, and this wasn't a fly-by-night amusement park, either. It had six themed areas (later expanded), dozens of rides and roller coasters, shows, and more. It pioneered many new forms of entertainment (including the river ride). Later (1983), a waterpark, Waterworld, was added. But Six Flags, which acquired the park in the early 1990s, did not maintain it as well as their other parks. So they closed it on October 30, 2005 citing that the land was more valuable than the park was (it wasn't) and it was demolished soon after. Nothing remains of it today.
