USA / New Jersey / West New York / New York City, New York / East 22nd Street, 234

4-story Renaissance-revival Catholic school building completed in 1888. This building houses the lower school, while the upper school is located on East 28th Street. The facade is clad in red brick with brownstone trim, with a rough-faced, rusticated stone basement level. There are seven bays, with two of them having large round-arched entrances breaking the basement level and framed by brownstone quoins. Each has a set of paneled wooden double-doors atop two stone steps, topped by tall fanlights of leaded glass. A large, flat, blue canvas awning projects in front of both entrances.

The three bays bays around the entrances have large single-windows with iron grilles at the bases, and recessed beige metal panels above topped by brick lintels with rough-faced stone impost blocks. The end bays are the same, but with wider double-windows. Below these five bays are low basement windows.

The 3rd & 5th floors are underlined by red terra-cotta string courses with a leafy pattern. The upper floors have alternating bays of double- and single-windows, again topped by metal panels. There are smalls pairs or trios of air-conditioning vents above each bay, except for on the top floor, where the windows openings above the metal panels are segmental-arched. The facade is crowned by a scalloped terra-cotta cornice. The east and west elevations are bare, parged concrete with no openings.
