Glasgow International Airport (IATA: GLA, ICAO: EGPF) is located 8 miles (13 km) west of the city centre adjacent to the M8 motorway. It is the second largest (after Prestwick) and second busiest airport in Scotland (after Edinburgh) and sixth busiest in the UK, handling more than 6.7 million passengers and 86,000 take-offs and landings annually. It was the first airport in Scotland to handle over one million passengers in one month. The airport has two runways of 2658m (8720 feet) and 1088m (3570 feet) respectively.

The airport is owned by Heathrow Airports Ltd,(formerly BAA plc, and before that the state-owned British Airports Authority) which also owns London Heathrow, Aberdeen and Southampton airports.
