Owned by the city of Houston and operated by the Houston Airport System, Bush IAH is Texas' second-largest air facility (after Dallas-Fort Worth International) and the eighth-busiest for total passengers in North America.
The airport has scheduled flights to destinations in the United States and international destinations in Asia, Canada, the Caribbean, Central America, Europe, Mexico, South America, the Middle East and scheduled charter flights to Africa.
Opened in June 1969 as Houston Intercontinental Airport, it was re-named in 1997 to honor George H. W. Bush, the 41st President of the United States (who once served in the U.S. House of Representatives from the Houston area).
