IATA: KEF, ICAO: BIKF
Naval Air Station Keflavík Iceland established in 1951, closed 2006.
Keflavík International Airport connecting North America to Iceland and many other European destinations.

As the center of the G-I-UK (Greenland, Iceland, UK) gap during the Cold War, Keflavik served as a vital facility in monitoring the movement of the Soviet submarine and other naval assets of the Red Banner Northern Fleet. The base's importance is illustrated in the Tom Clancy novel Red Storm Rising, in which the early seizure of the base by the Soviets dramatically hinders NATO activities in the northern Atlantic.
