The original H.B. Zachry Engineering Building (ZEC) opened for classes in the fall of 1971. Throughout most of its life it also had a small sandwich shop in the be main lobby, called "Zachry Snackery" but around the mid-2000s it closed, and in fall 2012, an Einstein Bros. Bagels set up shop, but it didn't last long before the building closed in February 2015 to be gutted and expanded. In 2018 the building reopened as the Zachry Engineering Education Complex (ZEEC), and featured a Starbucks Coffee inside.
